The Hummer was originally conceived by the American Motors Corporation as the U.S. military's "High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle," or Humvee, in 1979. It was delivered to the military in 1985. As a civilian vehicle it was identified as the Hummer, also known as H1, and was introduced to buyers in 1992. Subsequent models were the H2 and H3.
